Loneliness and Depression
8.) Loneliness and depression
“10 reasons why we need best friends”
Friendships play a very important role in many people's lives. Although many people these days are either too busy to take the necessary time to cultivate and nurture meaningful relationships or simply do not make the time, friendship is one sure way to relieve loneliness and depression.
I was brought up with the idea that people will make time for what is truly important. We all have the same amount of hours in each day but it is up to each person how they choose to spend that time, and also to decide what is really important and deserving of their time, especially any free time that one may have.
The typical cop-out for not doing something even as simple as returning a phone call from a friend for one example is usually that one has just been "too busy." We usually accept that and think that oh yes they have indeed been too busy to call when the truth is to ask yourself how long does it really take to pick up a phone and make a call?
How to overcome loneliness and depression
One benefit of having a good friend or friends is that it can help reduce feelings of loneliness and depression. Loneliness is a feeling that comes when a person experiences a strong sense of emptiness, which results from an insufficient level of healthy relationships.
For some, depression and loneliness feels like an actual deep pain that is meant to help motivate that person to seek out social connections. However, just because someone is alone does not automatically make him or her lonely. Everyone has their own individual amount of "alone time" that they require.
Now people are all different, for some people, if they don't have enough meaningful relationship that can be a negative thing whereas for others, too much of a relationship with someone can be almost unbearable. I highly doubt anyone was intended to live their lives completely and utterly alone without any significant friendships of any level whatsoever.
