Keeps Coming Back
Jon and I had known each other for years, at least since elementary school. We were always in the same classes and always in after school programs together.
We had had our times apart, when we were in different groups of friends, or when one of us was dating someone, but we usually managed to find our way back to each other.
I hadn't seen him in about four years and he had moved out of state for a military job. My family and I had been having a lot of problems and I had moved about an hour away from them. So here I was in a new town with only my boyfriend, when suddenly we started having problems too.
Jon and I had not talked in quite a while, when suddenly I get an email from him requesting my new phone number. I immediately gave it to him and within ten minutes my phone was ringing. We talked for hours that night, and the following night.
I filled him in on everything that had been going on, telling him how upset and depressed I had been. He did his best to cheer me up but could only do so much over the phone.
We talked every night that week, and then a few days before Christmas, he called me as I was on my way out the door for work (I was working third shift). The first thing out of his mouth was "guess what you're doing tomorrow". I was highly confused and asked him what. He responded with "going out to dinner with me".
Turns out, he had taken a leave and flown across the country to spend Christmas break with me. I honestly could not believe that he had done something so sweet and great for me. We had an amazing few days together, touring my new town, going to concerts, and catching up before he had to leave.
I was upset to think about not seeing him for who knows how long, but at least I knew that I had one of the most amazing friends that I could ever hope for. And I now knew without a doubt that he would always be there for me.
