"The person who makes a success of living is the one who see his goal steadily and aims for it unswervingly. That is dedication." Cecil B. DeMille(1881 - 1959)

How to Stop Procrastination in 5 Simple Steps

In the morning you arise and drink your coffee, you then check a list of tasks and duties that you need done for that particular day, and you decide to just go back to sleep. does that sound familiar? Could that be just a simple case of procrastination or is that a signs of something more serious? If this is just a one-time occurrence it is nothing serious, however, if this is a daily thing that happens over and over again, we have serious problem here.

People have many reasons for procrastinating like fearing failure, fearing success, fear of being rejected, at times low self-esteem, and not being very organized. Let's look further into this topic by looking at five simple tips to help you overcome and stop procrastination.

1.) Fear of Failure or Success

If you are afraid to fail or to succeed, there are particular things you can do to comprehend why. Question yourself on what you fear the most; is it he possibility of doing the job and what it will require? Or is the the end result along with possibly failing or could it be that you are scared to be success and what it entails.

Sometimes you can actually sabotage your own work because if you are successful you would be living up to others expectations. That could puts more pressure on you to even exceed their expectations and it's something that you probably aren't ready for.

Just know that it's okay. It's okay to fail and it's okay to succeed. Just in whatever you do, give your best and let the rest take care of itself as things and circumstances unfold.

2.) Fear of Being Rejected

Fear of being rejected often times can make one to procrastinate. This could stem from not having enough self-esteem or just being unsure of your own abilities. It can be caused by some rejection that has happened in your past and has started to creep in again now that you have a task to do.

Don't allow what others think to be too important; have confidence with your capabilities will help you get over the notion of rejection. It's okay to feel a bit of fear, but just shake it off and instead focus on what you can accomplish.

3.) Making Several Lists

Instead of making one long list with 20 or more things that need to be done, you need to do make several but small and achievable lists comprising of about 5 activities/things to do on them.

Organizing your duties using this method will help you complete your duties more easily; giving you a sense of accomplishment. You should not let anything or anyone stand in your way of having accomplishments in your life.

4.) Low Self-Esteem or Lack of Motivation

Low self-esteem can keep you from finishing the simplest of jobs and here is why: You either do not think you can do the task, or you might feel you do not know enough to finish that particular task.

In order to overcome low self esteem you may start by motivating yourself. You can do that by beginning with the easiest job, and slowly work your way through to total completion of the project. Each time you finish a given task, it goes a great way into building your confidence, and you will feel more motivated and certain about what you can accomplish. That also acts as an encouragement for you not to avoid your next job that you want to tackle.

5.) Take the Pressure Off

The following analogy might help you. When you want to save time and money on your next shopping, then you will need to make a list of what is needed right? With every product you put in the cart, you check or mark it off your list and always remember to remove any unwanted items not in the list, right? Otherwise your cart will end up being way too full of unwanted items, forget other stuff and most likely end up hurting your bottom line - your pocket/money.

If you use the same procedure with your other duties you have in your daily life you will take the pressure off of you, and your burden will be lifted. The key here is to not load your mind with jobs that can't be handled. Take it slowly, sticking with the right pace that you are able to handle comfortably
